Leprosy Disease And Treatment
Leprosy is an infectious disease of skin and nerves system. It is very harmful disease if the patient will not go under any medical treatment then it will lead to blindness and disability.
Leprosy is a bacterial disease cause by Mycobacterium leprae. It is a bacterial disease of skin and nerve.
Leprosy is a complete curable disease. The treatment for this disease required 6 month to 1 year. It is a multi drug treatment. People in backward areas are not much familiar with is disease so they do late in seeking help or treatment which cause disability of whole life time.
Leprosy as disabling disease:
As leprosy is a skin and nerve disease so this damage the sense of that body part after its treatment, which mean that if you have gone through a treatment and your disease is cured but you will not feel any pain on that effecting area. If your feet will be cut or your hand will be burn.
The symptoms take at least 3 to 5 year to be visible and to contact properly with mycobacterium. Following are some symptoms:-
- Disfiguring of skin sore
Nerve damage lead to:
- Muscle weakness
- Loss of feeling in arms and legs
These symptom skins disfigure lumps and bumps will not go away after several weeks or month.
Treatment of leprosy:
Leprosy is a curable disease. The treatment of leprosy depends on the type of leprosy. This is a long term treatment. The treatment required antibiotics. If the leprosy is strong then more than one antibiotic are being uses. The doctor use anti-inflammatory drugs to control the nerve pain of the patient, which include steroids. These antibiotics cannot control the nerve damage made by leprosy
Complication of leprosy:
If the patient will not take treatment at the right time then he or she can face serious problem for life time. The people have to face permanent damage of harm, legs, nerve, eyes etc. following are the complications:-
- Disfigure of face
- Disfigure of hands and legs
- Kidney failure
- Infertility in men
- Muscle weakness
